Dip Your Way into Thanksgiving

It's almost turkey time!  Better start thinking about what appetizer you are going to bring to grandma and grandpa's house for this year's celebration of gluttonous eating!  Here is a calcium-rich recipe for everyone to enjoy!  No one can say “no” to spinach artichoke dip.  I suggest adding some substitutions though.  Opt for low fat cheese, light sour cream, and light mayonnaise to cut the calories and still reap the benefits of this dish.

Total calcium per serving:  206 milligrams.

              1. This looks outstanding! My mom makes a killer spinach artichoke dip much like this one, but like you said they can be so dense in calories. I like your suggestions on using the low fat and light products though. I don't think it would have a huge affect on the flavor and hopefully make it a tad healthier. I definitely like the amount of calcium in it tho and it's a good thing to incorporate it in appetizer dishes such as these. Great Post!

              3. Yum! I love spinach and artichoke dip, I usually have it as a treat when I go out to eat every now and then. With the recipe I can now make it at home, and even more importantly have a good excuse to eat it! With 206 mg of calcium it is a way to indulge while still consuming some necessary vitamins for bone health. At my next study session I will have to make a batch letting my fellow students know that this snack will not only help to supply glucose for our brains to absorb all of this information but we will also build and maintain healthy bones.

              4. This looks fantastic, when I think of spinach dip I usually think: high in fat, must be bad for me. But this is great, now I can enjoy it knowing its not so bad for my bones :) I often replace things like sour cream with non fat plain greek yogurt, which makes it a little higher in protein and still maintains calcium and taste (most of the time). Thanks for this post~
